What is Lash Perming & Tint?
The Lash Perming & Tint is a two-in-one treatment that lifts and curls your natural lashes using a semi-permanent perming solution, then darkens them with a professional tint. The result is wide-open, lifted, darker lashes that look longer and more defined — without extensions, falsies, or daily curling. It's one of the most popular low-maintenance lash treatments for clients who want an eyes-wide-open effect that lasts 6-8 weeks.
The Experience
Treatment Process
- 1
Your therapist selects a silicone lash shield that matches your desired curl — from a subtle natural lift to a more dramatic curl.
- 2
Your lashes are carefully adhered to the shield, separated, and combed into position so each lash is individually lifted.
- 3
A perming solution is applied to break down the bonds in the lash hairs, allowing them to take on the curved shape of the shield.
- 4
After processing, a setting solution locks the curl in place permanently (for the life of each lash).
- 5
The lash tint is then applied — coating each curled lash with a semi-permanent dye for added colour, depth, and definition.
- 6
A nourishing serum is applied to condition the lashes and restore moisture after processing.

Frequently Asked Questions
The curl from a lash perm lasts 6-8 weeks — the full natural growth cycle of your lashes. As old lashes shed and new ones grow in straight, the effect gradually fades. The tint lasts 4-6 weeks. Most clients rebook every 6-8 weeks.
They're essentially the same treatment. 'Lash lift' is the more modern term, but the technique is identical — both use a perming solution to curl natural lashes against a shield. At Zest, our treatment also includes a tint for added definition.
When performed by a trained professional, a lash perm is safe for your natural lashes. We use professional-grade solutions and finish with a nourishing serum to condition the lashes. Over-processing can cause dryness, which is why we recommend waiting at least 6 weeks between treatments.
You can after the first 48 hours, but most clients find they don't need to. The curl and tint combination gives a defined, wide-eyed look on its own. If you do wear mascara, use a water-based formula and avoid waterproof varieties.

A lash perm curls and lifts your natural lashes — it's low-maintenance, natural-looking, and lasts 6-8 weeks with no infills needed. Lash extensions add synthetic fibres for volume and length but require regular infills every 2-3 weeks and more careful aftercare. Choose a perm for a natural, fuss-free enhancement; extensions for dramatic volume.
Yes, a patch test is mandatory at least 24 hours before your appointment. This checks for any reaction to the perming solution and the tint dye. Pop into the studio for a quick test — no appointment needed for the patch test itself.
Yes — in fact, it's particularly effective for short, straight lashes. The curl lifts them up and outward, making them appear significantly longer. Combined with the tint, even the shortest lashes gain visible definition and presence.
